Ingredients of Idli recipe
- You need 3 cups of Idli rice or preferably par boiled rice.
- You need 1 cup of split black lentil(urad dal).
- Prepare 1 of fist cooked rice.
- It's to taste of salt.
There are many variations in making idli recipe. Today's recipe is made using parboiled rice aka idli rice and regular rice. It can be made using idli rava too. I will share that recipe in future.
Idli recipe step by step
- Soak rice and lentils in separate water for about to 5-6 hours.
- Grind lentil and cooked rice to fine smooth paste and rice little coarse.
- Mix well both the ground ingredients and salt, add enough water to form batter of thick dropping consistency.
- Cover it and keep it in a warm place to ferment over night.
- Next morning give a good whisk to batter and steam idlis in steamer.. Serve hot with chutney / sambhar.
